On Saturday, October 6th, She's the First members joined forces to support the Women & Politics Institute at their Race to Representation 5K. The Women & Politics Institute works to close the gender gap in politics, and assists women with getting the education they need to be successful politicians. As co-sponsors of the event, She's the First brought both volunteers and runners on race day, as well as a table where participants could find out more about She's the First.

Runner Robert Bronstein ran on the She's the First team, and ended up placing first in his age group!
"Today I joined the Women in Politics Institute's 5K Race to Representation, my first race since high               school, in support of their mission to promote the representation of women in politics. I placed first in my age group, which was more than I expected, but I was even happier because I got to meet some really cool people and to further a meaningful cause! It was a pleasure to run with the team representing American University's "She's the First " organization, and I hope to have that honor again next year!"

Chante Harris assisted along the race route as a volunteer from She's the First.
"This past Saturday I had the chance to participate in the Women & Politics Institute's 5K as a volunteer for She's The First. It was an awesome and encouraging experience not only because I got to watch over 400 participants refrain from giving up but also because they we're running for a wonderful reason! As a member of She's The First I loved the sense of community I felt throughout the entire morning. We were able to bond within our group as well as with all the others that day. Also, the weather was beautiful especially to run a race in! I usually don't participate in races unless I'm walking or running, however the great experience I had at this past Saturday's 5K encouraged me to volunteer in such events more frequently. I can't wait until next year and am so pleased She's The First encourages participation in such wonderful events!"

She's the First*{American} was very thankful for the opportunity to participate in the race!
